Neary Students are Ready!

Pictured above is a submission from our first-ever Principal’s Assignment. Students answered three questions on the front and then prepared our wizard with everything he needed to be ready for school. Natalie, a fourth-grade student, identified a ready-to-learn mind, listening ears, open eyes, a kind heart, completed homework, and supplies such as a pencil, highlighter, water bottle, healthy snack, and backpack. She even remembered the correct shoes and having her hair up for gym! What a thoughtful representation of all it takes to be ready, and what a wonderful job bringing our wizard to life.

As of today, more than 100 students have completed the Principal’s Assignment, including 75 nominations recognizing peers who demonstrate what it means to Be Ready in our community. We look forward to celebrating these students and continuing to create opportunities for student voice at Neary.

My best,
Tom

Important Information

Morning Arrival Reminder

School begins at 8:45 a.m. To be on time, students must be inside the building by 8:45. We appreciate everyone’s partnership in helping students arrive on time and ready to begin their day.

Help Build Neary’s Friday Morning Playlist!

Each Friday, music helps welcome our Wizards to school, and we want students and families to help choose the songs! Use this song suggestion form to recommend music for our arrival playlist. All suggestions will be reviewed to ensure they are school-appropriate, and submitting a song does not guarantee that it will be played. We cannot wait to hear what gets our Neary community moving on Friday mornings!

News from the Art Room

Neary students have been building their studio habits and creating wonderful artwork! Grade 5 students recently completed Southborough-inspired pieces in celebration of the town’s 300th birthday and are now beginning a Pop Art unit focused on cartoons and characters. Grade 4 students finished their colorful Kindness Hearts and are moving on to new projects.

Families can extend the learning beyond Neary by exploring classes at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts or visiting the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln. When talking with your child about their artwork, invite them to describe it in their own words, ask thoughtful questions, and offer specific observations. If you can help upload student artwork to Artsonia, please contact Ms. Johnson at djohnson@nsboro.k12.ma.us.

Southborough Food Pantry Collection

Throughout October, Neary will collect items from the Southborough Food Pantry Wishlist. Each classroom has been assigned a specific item to donate, and all contributions are due by Friday, October 30. We will celebrate our collective effort that day with a Neary Spirit Day! Students may wear fall colors, comfortable clothing such as pajamas or onesies, Neary spirit wear, or a Halloween costume. Thank you for helping us support families in our community!

Roof Project Update

Roof project update: The roof is completely covered (100%). All insulation has been replaced and the new rubber layer has been applied.

What’s happening now: Crews continue the finishing work for a few more weeks, including sealing the roof edges and connecting/adjusting rooftop equipment.

What’s next: Once the finishing work is complete, a comprehensive test of all roof functions will be conducted, and a punch list will be created.

We are excited that this project has been a success in many ways!
