What's Happening at Neary This Week?

Neary Color Games!

Thank you!!

We are beyond grateful to our amazing SOS team, dedicated parent volunteers, and the entire Neary and Southborough community for your outstanding support in this year’s fundraiser! Because of your kindness and energy, we exceeded our $20,000 goal — what an incredible achievement!

Yesterday’s Color Games were the perfect celebration of everyone’s efforts. The event was filled with fun, excitement, and so much school pride, which is a true reminder of what makes our community so special. Many incredible photos were captured, which will make their way onto the pages of our Spring Yearbook!

Also, a huge thank you goes to our sponsors who stepped up to donate to the Color Games this year: Middlesex Asphalt, Realtor Malissa Jean Charles, BEST Soccer, Jeans Gymnastics, Mathnasium, Mauro’s Village Market, Aurora Aesthetics & Wellness, Wegmans, Sudbury Pharmacy, Southborough Starbucks, Altitude, McCarthy Pools, Silver Leaf Acupuncture, and Theracopia. We are so fortunate to have all of you as partners.

Your generosity directly supports enrichment opportunities, field trips, classroom materials, and schoolwide programs that help make Neary a vibrant and inspiring place for students to thrive. Thank you for being such a vital part of our school community!

REMINDER: Halloween Candy Donations 2025

Since 2004, Neary School students have collected Halloween candy, which was then sent to soldiers stationed all over the world, donated to local food pantries, and, for the last five years, donated the majority of the collected candy to a local group, Rise Above.

This year, we are back to donating candy to US soldiers. We will be sending candy to several former Neary students who themselves participated in this collection when they were fourth and fifth graders, as well as the father of a current Neary fourth grader. Candy will be sent to Rick Scott, a former Neary student. Rick is the commanding officer of the USCGC Earl Cunningham stationed off the coast of Kodiak, Alaska. We will be sending candy to Evangelos Baltas, a former Neary student and the brother of a current fifth grader. He and his wife are in the Navy. We will be sending candy to Drew MackNair, the father of a current fourth grader, who is currently stationed in Europe. Finally, we will be sharing the candy with U.S. Marine Captain Jack McLaughlin, who is stationed in San Diego, California, and is a friend of Mrs. Valenti. If you know of any soldier who would like to receive candy, please contact Mrs. Turieo (jturieo@nsboro.k12.ma.us).  If you would like to help with the postage, we would appreciate your help. Please send in money with your child.

There will be collection boxes outside of Mrs. Turieo’s room (Room 2) for candy donations from Monday, November 3rd, through Friday, November 7th. Children who want to participate can bring the candy to school and place it in the box themselves. For storage reasons, please send only prepackaged candy. We will be mailing out the packages the following week.

The response from the students each year has been fantastic. Most of the children anticipate Halloween so eagerly. Although we do collect food items throughout the year, giving a small amount of their own candy makes the donation even more personal for the children.

Thank you for your support.

October Spirit Day!

On Friday, October 31st, we will be celebrating Spirit Day! Students are welcome to wear fall colors, comfy clothes (pajamas, onesies, etc.), Neary spirit wear, or Halloween costumes to school. Please note that students will remain in their chosen outfits throughout the entire day, as changing clothes during school hours will not be permitted. All attire should allow for easy bathroom use and full participation in gym, lunch, recess, and specials.

For those choosing to wear Halloween costumes, please ensure they are not disruptive to student learning and do not include toy weapons (e.g., guns, knives, swords, etc.). We also ask that costumes avoid any scary or gory accessories, full masks, or face paint.

We understand that not all families celebrate Halloween, and we respect those preferences. Participation in costume-wearing is completely optional.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
